Making New York-Style Pizza at Home Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F-115°F)
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 5-6 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, etc.)

Instructions:

In a large bowl, mix together the water, yeast, sugar, and salt until the yeast and sugar have dissolved.
Gradually add in the flour, one cup at a time, until a sticky dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Preheat your oven to 500°F. If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat.
In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the crushed tomatoes, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper and simmer for 5-7 minutes.
On a floured surface, divide the dough into 2 or 3 portions (depending on how big you want your pizzas to be). Stretch and shape each portion into a round or oblong pizza shape.
Place the shaped dough on a sheet of parchment paper or a floured pizza peel (if using a pizza stone).
Spoon the tomato sauce onto the dough, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce. Add your desired toppings.
Slide the pizza (on parchment paper or pizza peel) onto the preheated pizza stone or onto a baking sheet.
Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve hot. Enjoy your homemade New York-style pizza!
