If you're in the mood for a fruity and delicious dessert with almost no prep time, these incredibly easy and tasty apple pie rolls are for you! They only require a few ingredients that many people already have lying around (like puff pastry, butter, and apple), so they're perfect when you want to whip something up in a hurry.
Ingredients
Apple Pie Filling:
6 Tablespoons water
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 Tablespoon maple syrup
1 Tablespoon caramel syrup
1 Tablespoon lemon juice (about ½ a lemon)
1 Tablespoon cornstarch
2 large Granny Smith apples peeled, cored, and diced
Bread Rollups:
10 slices sandwich bread
½ cup granulated sugar
1 ½ Tablespoons cinnamon
¾ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ cup (½ stick) salted butter, melted
Preparations
Step 1: Mix the Flour with the Sugar, Salt, and Teaspoonful of Milk
Mix the flour with the sugar and salt in a small bowl. Add about 1/4 teaspoon of milk to form a sticky dough. Pat it into a rectangle shape. Let stand for 15 minutes.
Step 2: Peel, Core, and Slice the Apples
Peel and cut all your apples into thin slices or cubes, depending on their size (I use about 7 or 8 medium-sized slices per apple).
Step 3: Make the Puff Pastry
First, make the puff pastry dough (Filling and Crust). Let it stand for about 30-40 minutes.
Step 4: Cook in a 375F Oven until Golden Brown
Place the puff pastry piece on an oiled baking sheet. Brush it with butter. Cut to fit around the pie plate, making sure you leave enough of a border around each side to wrap around the edges later. Depending on how big your pie plate is, you may need 2 sheets of pastry.
