This recipe is a traditional, homestyle dinner that has been enjoyed by many people across generations. It's one that I would normally cook for my family on a Sunday evening when we're all gathered around the dinner table just wanting something cozy and delicious to share.
It's made of three simple components: chicken, honey, and soy sauce. And it tastes absolutely scrumptious with rice! You can serve this meal hot or cold, or even as part of an appetizer for your guests; whichever way you prepare it though, this meal will please your taste buds.
Ingredients
1 lb. (0.4 kg) boneless chicken breast, cut into 1-inch cubes or long strips
oil for deep-frying
2 garlic, minced
toasted sesame seeds to garnish
FRYING BATTER:
1 egg white
1/2 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup water, ice cold
1 tablespoon oil
1 pinch salt
HONEY SESAME SAUCE:
1/3 cup pure honey
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
1/2 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon corn starch
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon salt
Directions
1) In a large bowl, combine chicken, soy sauce, cornstarch, ginger, and garlic. Toss to coat. Marinate for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
2) Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add carrots, red peppers, and onions. Stir-fry for 3 minutes or until crisp-tender; remove from skillet and set aside.
3) Add chicken to skillet; stir-fry until cooked through and no longer pink, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes; remove from skillet and set aside.
4) To the same skillet, add remaining ingredients; cook and stir until chicken is coated and the sauce has thickened. Stir in vegetables. Serve immediately.
