How To Make Chicken Strips at Home

The preparation of chicken strips varies depending on the recipe or cooking method used. Some variations include marinating the chicken in buttermilk, seasoning it with herbs and spices, or coating it with a mixture of flour, cornmeal, and breadcrumbs. The chicken strips can be cooked in a deep fryer, skillet, oven, or air fryer until golden brown and crispy.

Chicken strips can be served with various dipping sauces such as ketchup, barbecue sauce, honey mustard, ranch dressing, or sweet chili sauce. They are often accompanied by side dishes such as french fries, coleslaw, salad, or mashed potatoes.

Here are some tips and variations :

Use different coatings: Experiment with different coatings for your chicken strips. Instead of the traditional flour and breadcrumb mixture, try using crushed cornflakes, panko breadcrumbs, or seasoned potato chips for a unique flavor and texture.

Try different seasonings: Season your chicken strips with your favorite spices and herbs, such as garlic powder, paprika, cumin, or Italian seasoning. You can also add a kick of heat by using cayenne pepper or chili powder.

Marinate the chicken: Marinating the chicken in buttermilk or a mixture of yogurt and spices can make the chicken strips more tender and flavorful.

Bake or air fry: Instead of deep-frying your chicken strips, try baking or air-frying them for a healthier option. Coat the chicken strips with a little oil and bake them in the oven at 400°F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Make a dipping sauce: Whip up a homemade dipping sauce to accompany your chicken strips. Try mixing together mayonnaise, honey, and Dijon mustard for a sweet and tangy honey mustard sauce. Or, combine ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce for a spicy barbecue sauce.

Serve with different sides: Instead of the classic french fries, try serving your chicken strips with healthier sides like roasted vegetables, sweet potato fries, or a fresh salad.

Make them into wraps: Use your chicken strips to make delicious wraps by wrapping them in a tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and your favorite sauce.

By using these tips and variations, you can take your chicken strips to the next level and make them a crowd-pleasing favorite.

How To Make Chicken Strips at Home

Ingredients:

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

Cut the chicken breasts into long, thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide.

Combine the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a shallow dish. In a different, shallow bowl, whisk the milk and eggs together.

In a third shallow dish, place the breadcrumbs.

In a large, deep skillet set over medium-high heat, heat about 1 inch of oil.

Shake off any excess flour before coating each chicken piece.

Dip each strip in the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.

Roll each strip in the breadcrumbs, pressing the crumbs onto the chicken to adhere.

Once the oil is hot, add the chicken strips in batches, cooking for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Using a slotted spoon, remove the chicken strips from the oil and set them on a platter covered with paper towels to drain any extra oil.

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
