INGREDIENTS
3-1 / 2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
2 pouches (4-1 / 2 tsp) Fleischmann's® Quick Rise Yeast
2 tbsp. tablespoon of sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup of hot water (120 ° F to 130 ° F)
1/4 cup prepared mustard
2 tbsp. butter OR margarine softened
1 package (9 ounces) deli ham, thinly sliced OR 2 cups baked ham, chopped
1 cup (4 ounces) Swiss cheese OR grated cheddar cheese
1 jar (2 ounces) roasted red peppers, well-drained
1/3 cup diced dill pickles
1 egg, lightly beaten
METHOD
In a large mixer bowl, mix together 1-1 / 2 cups of the flour, undissolved yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir hot water, mustard, and butter into the flour mixture. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead on a lightly floured surface until the dough is smooth and elastic, for approx. 4 to 6 minutes. Cover; let stand for 10 minutes.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 15 ”x 10” rectangle. Transfer to a greased baking sheet. Sprinkle ham, cheese, roasted peppers, and pickles, along, center third of the dough. Using a sharp knife, cut dough 1 inch apart, from filling to edge. Alternating side to side, fold dough strips at an angle overfilling. Cover the bread; leave to almost double in size in a warm, draft-proof place for approx. 30 to 40 minutes.
Brush bread with beaten egg, Bake at 375 ° F for 35 minutes or until cooked through. Remove from the baking sheet and place on a wire rack. Serve hot. Refrigerate any leftovers; reheat to serve.
